Goal Of Project

"Super Outfit" is a tribute to the iconic streetwear brand Stüssy, blending my love for fashion with a creative exploration of typography and design. Capturing the essence of Stüssy’s bold, rebellious identity, I used color palettes, typefaces, and layouts that reflect the brand’s edgy spirit. This project showcases my ability to merge storytelling with design, fusing creativity, culture, and style.

"Stüssy is more than just a streetwear brand; it's a cultural movement that uses its platform to challenge norms, amplify diverse voices, and shed light on pressing social issues—bridging the gap between fashion and meaningful change."

In crafting the book, I used a deliberate visual narrative, transitioning from black-and-white tones in the first half to vibrant colors towards the end. This progression symbolizes the journey from the past to the present, mirroring the evolution of Stüssy as a brand and its impact on culture over time. The transition is further reflected in the backgrounds, shifting from black to white, creating a seamless visual metaphor that ties the narrative together.

To make the book more interactive and engaging, I designed a page where readers can actively participate in creating their “super outfit.” Using any type of pen or pencil, readers can check off Stüssy clothing pieces, tying directly to the book’s title and theme. This interactive element adds a fun and personal touch, allowing the audience to connect with the brand in a playful way.

Every design project I undertake begins with sketching. It’s a crucial step in my process, allowing me to quickly and efficiently explore initial ideas and visualize concepts. This step, along with creating mood boards, helps establish the visual tone and ensures a cohesive, well-thought-out design strategy. This process streamlines my workflow and allows me to create designs that are both functional and visually compelling.

Ideation

typeface

Bebas: A bold, impactful typeface widely used in the streetwear scene. Its clean, modern structure and strong presence make it perfect for headlines or significant text, aligning with streetwear’s bold and attention-grabbing nature.

Stussy Script: This funky, rebellious typeface is central to Stussy's brand identity. Its imperfect, free-spirited style reflects the essence of streetwear—self-expression through imperfection and individuality.

Helvetica Neue: Ideal for longer text and serious content like references, this typeface ensures readability with its clear, legible, and modern design. It creates a strong contrast to the bold and script-like fonts, balancing the overall design.

Once I’ve developed my initial ideas through sketching and mood boards, I move on to creating mockups and printing thumbnails of my designs. This step allows me to step back and evaluate the overall look and system of the design on a smaller scale. It helps me identify areas that need improvement and ensure the layout feels cohesive and functional.

To refine my work further, I create a rough, true-to-size printout of the design. This process is invaluable for assessing how the typography and imagery appear at their actual scale. Seeing the physical design helps me fine-tune every detail, ensuring that the final outcome is polished and effective.

key Takeaways

The Super Outfit book project pays homage to Stussy, blending bold typography, interactive design, and storytelling to celebrate the brand’s essence. A black-to-white gradient transition symbolizes the evolution from past to present, while an interactive page lets readers create their own “super outfit.” By combining typefaces like Bebas, Stussy Script, and Helvetica Neue, the design balances boldness, individuality, and readability. Through meticulous mockups and prototypes, I ensured a refined final product that reflects my love for fashion and commitment to honoring streetwear culture.

Project Overview

For this project, I was tasked with creating a complete book concept based on a randomly generated title. I developed the book’s content, design, and overall theme, considering everything from typography and layout to cover design and supporting graphics. This challenge required me to think critically and creatively, transforming a random concept into a cohesive and polished final product. The result is a book that showcases both my ability to develop ideas and execute designs that communicate effectively through both content and visuals.
